Around Town is our local check-in with businesses, people and just plain fun activities going on around the Twin Cities Metro Area. We believe that you build a community through working together every day. If you or your business wants to be visited, please let us know.
As someone who lives in downtown Minneapolis, I’m always in search of new and exciting restaurants to try in my neighborhood. My husband, Garret, and I were given the opportunity to check out Eastside this past weekend and were delighted that we did. Located on the corner of Washington Avenue and Third Street, Eastside is a mix of a classic yet modern environment that has a little bit of something for everyone. While being shown to our table, I immediately noticed the timeless tile floors and the contemporary light figures. It was an eclectic vibe that made for a fun environment.
Great food and timeless cocktails
We started with the crab cakes and let me tell you…you must order them when you go to Eastside. They were crisp on the outside and are accompanied with a flavorful bravas (spice tomato) sauce and a garlic aioli.
I chose the steak frites for my entrée and Garret had the prime beef burger. My steak came out perfectly cooked and tender with a béarnaise sauce that was a wonderful complement to the steak (and fries). According to Garret, the burger was one of the best burgers he had ever had. I didn’t have the opportunity to try it so I can’t speak from experience but I will say this is high praise coming from him.
Eastside is also place to go if you’re in the mood for a great cocktail. They have an exceptional bar staff who can craft outstanding signature cocktails, such as the Gold Rush, and yet still pay homage to the classics, like the Manhattan. The Gold Rush was a refreshing combination of Tin Cup whiskey, ginger, honey, and lemon. If you've ever had a Big Ginger, the Gold Rush is its cousin. They also have an impressive wine and beer selection.
An atmosphere for everyone
There were a variety of different dynamics observed during our dinner. From the group of people having a formal night out, to the group of friends catching up over drinks, or even the family enjoying a fine meal before catching a show at the Guthrie Theater. It is an inviting and inclusive environment at Eastside.
From the industrial lighting to the tile floor, every detail in the decor speaks to the ambience this great space offers. The open kitchen design and friendly staff help highlight the inviting atmosphere.
In the summer, they have seating available outside which I know is a important feature on a nice day to most Minnesotans.
Next time you're downtown, whether it be to have lunch, dinner before seeing a show or just a night out on the town; check out Eastside.
They have something for everyone to enjoy. After this experience, I know I’ll definitely be back to see what else Eastside has to offer. I’d highly recommend visiting this reputable restaurant.
